With so many choices in aromatherapy courses these days, it is hard to know which aromatherapy course is the best one for you to choose.

The price of these courses are not necessarily a factor in knowing whether a particular aromatherapy course is the right one for you or not.

Buyer Beware!

Price does not always equal Quality, especially in online or distance learning courses.

So, how do you choose a good aromatherapy course and how can you tell if the  courses being offered are the right ones for you?

The first thing I would suggest is to go to the site where the course is being offered. What is the language like? What I mean to say is, does the general tone and description of the aromatherapy course make sense to you.

There is no sense in choosing a course that does not cater to your level of learning.

If the course being offered is chuck full of technical terminology which you don’t understand, then this is a very good clue that you will not receive much benefit from the aromatherapy course which is being advertised to you.

A good aromatherapy course, or should I say a GREAT aromatherapy course is written with the student in mind.

Most of the population who are looking into taking further education courses are generally young mothers or other people who are taking this training as a sideline to what they are already doing.

In other words, the aromatherapy course is going to be something that is done part-time, while the future Aromatherapist is doing other essential work such as a full time job and taking care of their children.

Is the aromatherapy course you are looking into divided into small lessons that can be easily picked up and understood in a minimum of time?

If the lessons in the aromatherapy course are very long then you will run into problems. As mentioned earlier the first problem will be that you may not have the time to devote to the aromatherapy course if it is too long winded.

Another problem you may run into is that if the aromatherapy course is not divided into small bite size pieces then you may not be able to retain the information that they are teaching you in the aromatherapy course.

I am sure there are many of you, who like myself, find that the busier our lives get the less we retain what we have read. This is why it is important to keep things simple.

A good aromatherapy course should be easy to read and hopefully it will have a lesson quiz at the end of each chapter to help refresh the important details.

Have you ever read a really good book and thoroughly enjoyed it but realized that a day or two later you were unable to recall the more finer details from the book? Well, with a good aromatherapy course, this should not be an issue.

If there is a lesson quiz at the end of each lesson then it will be easier for you to go back to the quiz and refresh your memory about what the lesson was actually about.

When it comes to aromatherapy it is really important that you understand what you are doing.

If the aromatherapy course does not have these features then it will be much harder for you to retain what you have learnt and therefore you will not be able to practice the art of aromatherapy as well as you should.

In a news article from the telegraph.co.uk today they are telling us about earthquake kits for dogs and cats. Apparently these kits come equipped with a padded jacket and rain hat, special boots to protect paws, and aromatherapy oil to soothe stressed out cats and dogs.

These emergency packs are supposed to be a big hit, especially in Japan.

When I read news articles such as this I tend to shudder. What can these people be thinking? Obviously if they were truly concerned for their little cats they would research and find out that aromatherapy should never be used on cats.Although Essential Oils are genearlly safe, there are certain aromatherapy contraindications.

It’s a shame that people will buy into something like this and end up harming their precious animals all because they do not take the time to do a little research.

Aromatherapy has been around for quite awhile now and you would think that people would know better. Aromatherapy courses are not very expensive – well actually some aromatherapy courses are very expensive, but you can find some quailty aromatherapy courses that won’t cost an arm and a leg. There is nothing stopping people from learning about aromatherapy properly by taking a simple aromatherapy course instead of acting out of ignorance.

Many people, like yourself, have asked me what I think of taking aromatherapy courses versus just doing self-study via the Internet. The fact of the matter is that there are pros and cons to any decision we make and so we will try and address some of these in this article.

The obvious Pro of learning aromatherapy through self-study on the Internet is of course the savings in money. It costs nothing to Google aromatherapy into the search engine and come up with thousands of sites that have information regarding aromatherapy. And of course, these sources are free.

The Cons of learning aromatherapy by self study are as follows:

1) Even though the Internet is full of free information, this does not mean that the information is reliable. Although it is termed the information highway, it should be noted that many times it is more like a misinformation highway.

2) You may find unscrupulous people trying to sell their brand of essential oils and therefore will be very biased in when and how to use the oils. For example, there are MLM’s (multi-level-marketing companies) out there that would have you believe that essential oils do not have to be diluted. This is a great problem. Their advantage is that if they can get you to use their essential oils without diluting them, the essential oils will naturally not last as long and voila! They make more money out of you because you will need to buy their essential oils more frequently. They will insist that they have special therapeutic essential oils that do not need diluting. This is wrong! All essential oils need to be diluted. Yes, even Lavender and Tea Tree should be diluted because some people are extremely sensitive and we do not want to cause any harm to any individual.

3)By studying only by the websites on the Internet you may end up with gaps in your learning. Without following a set of standards on what you should know when using aromatherapy you will not be able to make your own aromatherapy treatments based on proven knowledge.

The Pros of Taking Aromatherapy Courses:

1) You will be led, step by step on how to use essential oils safely and effectively.
2) If you choose your teacher wisely then you will be following a set of standards set forth by the varying aromatherapy associations.
3) You will know that you are following the specific guidelines set up so that you are not causing harm to those you wish to make aromatherapy treatments for.
4) Your eventual clients will consider you knowledgeable and be more inclined to buy from you rather than someone who says that they are self-taught.
5) You can learn without gaps in your learning process.
6) You can follow easy to use curriculum which has been researched.
7) You can have pride in the fact that you are doing the best to your knowledge in using essential oils in a professional manner.

The Cons of Taking Aromatherapy Courses:

1) Just one con. That would be that it costs money. But don’t let that dissuade you from taking a good aromatherapy course. There are many aromatherapy courses on the Internet that provide you with the proper standards set for by the aromatherapy associations that are very affordable.

Remember that in order to become certified according to the aromatherapy associations you will need both a Level I and Level II course successfully completed.

Your Action Plan:

Check out affordable aromatherapy courses available on the Internet. Check out their syllabus and read their web pages. This way you can get a feel for what the teacher is like and how she/he relates to people through the written word. If you like their style and find them easy to understand then go ahead and take the course. It’s an investment well spent that will pay you dividends in the manner of better health and knowledge. Can we really put a price on that?

Essential Lavender has been the most popular since the beginning of the ages as far as we can trace it. The Greeks and Romans perfumed their baths with Lavender and it was a popular facial water between the 14th and 19th Centuries.

BUT the big surprise is that they are finding more and more people are becoming sensitized to these mild oils because they were not diluted in a suitable carrier oil.

ALWAYS DILUTE ANY ESSENTIAL OIL BEFORE USING ON THE SKIN!

Essential Lavender Oil can be used for so, so many things, I cannot write them all down in one article. But because of its diversity and the ability to be sedating or stimulating depending on its dosage this has made it the number #1 oil in aromatherapy.

Now, how can you use Essential Lavender Oil? I will tell you 5 ways as I promised

1. Essential Lavender Oil can be used in a candle light diffuser. Simply add 3-4 drops in some water on the top and light the candle underneath.
2. Essential Lavender Oil can be placed on a cotton ball and placed inside your pillow at night for sweet, relaxing dreams
3. Essential Lavender Oil can be added to your evening bath by adding it to a teaspoon of carrier oil or honey. 10 drops per bath is about right.
4. Essential Lavender Oil can be added to a Tissue Kleenex and then stick it on a fan. The fan will cause the Essential Lavender to permeate the immediate area. This is great if you are stressed out.
5. Lastly, for this article, Essential Lavender Oil can be added to 15ml of carrier oil and massaged gently into your skin. If you can get a loving partner to do it for you then it will be even more relaxing.

I am almost finished the touches on a great program that will allow you to learn the Latin Binomials very easily. There are 79 common Essential Oils in this particular aromatherapy program. Many students were complaing about how hard it is to learn their Latin Binomials.

First the obvious: I am a teacher and have written Foundations in Aromatherapy Level I ,an aromatherapy course which far exceeds the standards set up for a Level I Course, and I am presently working on the Level II  Aromatherapy Course. I have also written ebooks on Aromatherapy. Also published the Book “Ailments & Alternatives in Aromatherapy” a handy desk reference for aromatherapy. Some people spell this aroma-therapy. Just a brief bio on who I am. My name is Sharron Myers and I am a Certified Aromatherapist. I am the owner of Serene Aromatherapy and also do consulting. I have studied Essential Oils and Aromatherapy since 1991, although I was always interested in Alternative Healing.
