How to Choose a Good Aromatherapy Course

Posted on August 18th, 2008 by admin

With so many choices in aromatherapy courses these days, it is hard to know which aromatherapy course is the best one for you to choose.

The price of aromatherapy courses are not necessarily a factor in knowing whether a particular aromatherapy course is the right one for you or not.

Buyer Beware!

Price does not always equal Quality, especially in online or distance learning courses.

So, how do you choose a good aromatherapy course and how can you tell if the aromatherapy courses being offered are the right ones for you?

The first thing I would suggest is to go to the site where the aromatherapy course is being offered. What is the language like? What I mean to say is, does the general tone and description of the aromatherapy course make sense to you.

There is no sense in choosing an aromatherapy course that does not cater to your level of learning.

If the aromatherapy course being offered is chuck full of technical terminology which you don’t understand, then this is a very good clue that you will not receive much benefit from the aromatherapy course which is being advertised to you.

A good aromatherapy course, or should I say a GREAT aromatherapy course is written with the student in mind.

Most of the population who are looking into taking aromatherapy courses are generally young mothers or other people who are taking this training as a sideline to what they are already doing.

In other words, the aromatherapy course is going to be something that is done part-time, while the future Aromatherapist is doing other essential work such as a full time job and taking care of their children.

Is the aromatherapy course you are looking into divided into small lessons that can be easily picked up and understood in a minimum of time.

If the lessons in the aromatherapy course are very long then you will run into problems. As mentioned earlier the first problem will be that you may not have the time to devote to the aromatherapy course if it is too long winded.

Another problem you may run into is that if the aromatherapy course is not divided into small bite size pieces then you may not be able to retain the information that they are teaching you in the aromatherapy course.

I am sure there are many of you, who like myself, find that the busier our lives get the less we retain what we have read. This is why it is important to keep things simple.

A good aromatherapy course should be easy to read and hopefully it will have a lesson quiz at the end of each chapter to help refresh the important details.

Have you ever read a really good book and thoroughly enjoyed it but realized that a day or two later you were unable to recall the more finer details from the book? Well, with a good aromatherapy course, this should not be an issue.

If there is a lesson quiz at the end of each aromatherapy course lesson then it will be easier for you to go back to the quiz and refresh your memory about what the lesson was actually about.

When it comes to aromatherapy it is really important that you understand what you are doing.

If the aromatherapy course does not have these features then it will be much harder for you to retain what you have learnt and therefore you will not be able to practice the art of aromatherapy as well as you should.

How to Become an Aromatherapist

Posted on June 6th, 2009 by admin

Has the thought of becoming an aromatherapist ever entered your mind? Many people are searching for a way to turn something they love into a full time job. Can taking aromatherapy courses allow you to enjoy a lucrative vocation?

Many people believe that taking aromatherapy courses are only good for teaching them how to use essential oils safely and effectively for their own personal interests. The truth of the matter is that not only do aromatherapy courses teach you how to mix essential oils for making soaps, candles and other homemade products, they also teach you how to use the skills you learn via the aromatherapy courses so that you too can become a certified aromatherapist.

By becoming a certified aromatherapist you would be receiving the aromatherapy training necessary to work in the wonderful field of Alternative Medicine and enjoy the many benefits that a good aromatherapy course would teach you.

What type of work could you do if you received your certification in aromatherapy?  As an aromatherapist you could work in a spa, consulting clients on the proper choice of essential oils they may need. How about consulting massage therapists on the best massage blend for their clients who are stressed out, or suffer from headaches.

If you wanted you could also open a retail store of your own and sell essential oils. If you have received your certification in Aromatherapy you would be much better able to assist your customers than the fellow working down the road in a natural health food store who has no aromatherapy training.

Does it matter which aromatherapy courses you take?  Yes it matters. You would need both a Level I and Level II Aromatherapy Courses in order to become certified as an aromatherapist. You must be sure that the courses offered meet the standards required by the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.  Be sure to check the syllabus for any aromatherapy courses you may be interested in and make certain that they meet the standards necessary.

As a certified aromatherapist myself, I can’t tell you how much I enjoy working with people everyday and teaching them how to use essential oils safely and effectively. I definitely recommend that you search the Internet and find a good, affordable aromatherapy course that you can learn from at home in your spare time.  Adding extra income to the family budget is always a plus and you will see for yourself how great it is to take healing back into your own hands.

Aromatherapy Courses Vs Self Study - Pros & Cons

Posted on June 6th, 2009 by admin

Many people, like yourself, have asked me what I think of taking aromatherapy courses versus just doing self-study via the Internet. The fact of the matter is that there are pros and cons to any decision we make and so we will try and address some of these in this article.

The obvious Pro of learning aromatherapy through self-study on the Internet is of course the savings in money. It costs nothing to Google aromatherapy into the search engine and come up with thousands of sites that have information regarding aromatherapy. And of course, these sources are free.

The Cons of learning aromatherapy by self study are as follows:

1) Even though the Internet is full of free information, this does not mean that the information is reliable. Although it is termed the information highway, it should be noted that many times it is more like a misinformation highway.

2) You may find unscrupulous people trying to sell their brand of essential oils and therefore will be very biased in when and how to use the oils. For example, there are MLM’s (multi-level-marketing companies) out there that would have you believe that essential oils do not have to be diluted. This is a great problem. Their advantage is that if they can get you to use their essential oils without diluting them, the essential oils will naturally not last as long and voila! They make more money out of you because you will need to buy their essential oils more frequently. They will insist that they have special therapeutic essential oils that do not need diluting. This is wrong! All essential oils need to be diluted. Yes, even Lavender and Tea Tree should be diluted because some people are extremely sensitive and we do not want to cause any harm to any individual.

3)By studying only by the websites on the Internet you may end up with gaps in your learning. Without following a set of standards on what you should know when using aromatherapy you will not be able to make your own aromatherapy treatments based on proven knowledge.

The Pros of Taking Aromatherapy Courses:

1) You will be led, step by step on how to use essential oils safely and effectively.
2) If you choose your teacher wisely then you will be following a set of standards set forth by the varying aromatherapy associations.
3) You will know that you are following the specific guidelines set up so that you are not causing harm to those you wish to make aromatherapy treatments for.
4) Your eventual clients will consider you knowledgeable and be more inclined to buy from you rather than someone who says that they are self-taught.
5) You can learn without gaps in your learning process.
6) You can follow easy to use curriculum which has been researched.
7) You can have pride in the fact that you are doing the best to your knowledge in using essential oils in a professional manner.

The Cons of Taking Aromatherapy Courses:

1) Just one con. That would be that it costs money. But don’t let that dissuade you from taking a good aromatherapy course. There are many aromatherapy courses on the Internet that provide you with the proper standards set for by the aromatherapy associations that are very affordable.

Remember that in order to become certified according to the aromatherapy associations you will need both a Level I and Level II course successfully completed.

Your Action Plan:

Check out affordable aromatherapy courses available on the Internet. Check out their syllabus and read their web pages. This way you can get a feel for what the teacher is like and how she/he relates to people through the written word. If you like their style and find them easy to understand then go ahead and take the course. It’s an investment well spent that will pay you dividends in the manner of better health and knowledge. Can we really put a price on that?

Essential Lavender Oil: 5 Ways to Benefit from Lavender Essential Oil

Posted on December 2nd, 2008 by admin

Essential Lavender Oil is the #1 Oil sold by Aromatherapists around the world. It is the very first choice that the general public chooses and which aromatherapists recommend the most.

What is the reason for this phenomenon?

Why is Essential Lavender Oil the most loved oil?

What distinguishes it from the rest of the essential oils?

Essential Lavender has been the most popular since the beginning of the ages as far as we can trace it. The Greeks and Romans perfumed their baths with Lavender and it was a popular facial water between the 14th and 19th Centuries.

It was also burned as incense to the gods & goddesses and carried during the plague to ward off the diseases which were so prevalent.

The name Lavender comes from the Latin verb meaning “to Wash.” Lavender was essential to everyday living. It is even believed to ward off the evil eye.

Essential Lavender Oil blends well with many other Essential Oils also such as: Bergamot, Cedarwood, Chamomile, Clary Sage, Clove, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Fennel, Frankincense, Geranium, Grapefruit, Jasmine, Juniper Berry, Lemon, Lemongrass, Linden Blossom, Mandarin, Marjoram, Melissa, Myrrh, Neroli, Niaouli, Orange, Oakmoss, Patchouli, Peppermint, Pine, Rose, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Tea tree, Vetivert and Ylang Ylang.

Some of Essential Lavender Oils properties are: It is analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-septic, anti-rheumatic, a cell regenerator and a disinfectant.

I would like you to note this very carefully. Most aromatherapy books and web sites say that you can use Lavender oil and/or Tea tree oil undiluted on the skin. This is what is known as a neat application. BUT the big surprise is that they are finding more and more people are becoming sensitized to these mild oils because they were not diluted in a suitable carrier oil.

ALWAYS DILUTE ANY ESSENTIAL OIL BEFORE USING ON THE SKIN!

Essential Lavender Oil can be used for so, so many things, I cannot write them all down in one article. But because of its diversity and the ability to be sedating or stimulating depending on its dosage this has made it the number #1 oil in aromatherapy.

Now, how can you use Essential Lavender Oil? I will tell you 5 ways as I promised

  1. Essential Lavender Oil can be used in a candle light diffuser. Simply add 3-4 drops in some water on the top and light the candle underneath.
  2. Essential Lavender Oil can be placed on a cotton ball and placed inside your pillow at night for sweet, relaxing dreams
  3. Essential Lavender Oil can be added to your evening bath by adding it to a teaspoon of carrier oil or honey. 10 drops per bath is about right.
  4. Essential Lavender Oil can be added to a Tissue Kleenex and then stick it on a fan. The fan will cause the Essential Lavender to permeate the immediate area. This is great if you are stressed out.
  5. Lastly, for this article, Essential Lavender Oil can be added to 15ml of carrier oil and massaged gently into your skin. If you can get a loving partner to do it for you then it will be even more relaxing.

I hope you have enjoyed these tips. Be sure to check out my webpage.

Aromatherapy Course: Latin Binomials Made Easy!

Posted on November 15th, 2008 by admin

The Aromatherapy Course, Latin Binomials Made Easy is finally finished. Boy was this a hard piece of work, but I’m glad it’s done and looks lovely too.

It’s finally up on it’s site http://www.serenearomatherapy.com/aromatherapycourses/latinbinomials.html

This is what the CD and Workbook look like:

Latin Binomials Workbook and program

When you get a moment go and check it out. It is pretty cool.

It is based on scientifically proven methods for memorization. It’s includes quizzes, crosswords, word games etc. Plus the software is really cool. You can adjust it to show you the Latin Binomials alphebetically and then when you have them down pretty good, you can go and change the algorithm to show the Latin Binomials shuffled. This keeps you on your toes. How can your brain be on your toes? hmmmm some sayings are weird.

Update on Aromatherapy Course

Posted on October 31st, 2008 by admin

As many of you know I am working on upgrading the aromatherapy course “Foundations in Aromatherapy Level I”. I am  hoping to have that up and running for Saturday Nov. 1, 2009 so keep tuned in :)

I am almost finished the touches on a great program that will allow you to learn the Latin Binomials very easily. There are 79 common Essential Oils in this particular aromatherapy program. Many students were complaing about how hard it is to learn their Latin Binomials.

I realize that it’s a pain sometimes to try and remember which one is which, but this new program will help you immensely. I have included music therapy and color therapy into the mix to help you learn even more easily.

The aromatherapy course itself has changed big time. Much, Much easier to read and even has bookmarks now so you can jump easily to any page you want to get to.  The Section on Physical and Emotional problems has also been revised so that you can see clearly now which essential oils should be used for the particular symptoms. A Real Handy Aromatherapy Desk reference. You’ll really appreciate this if you are considering taking the Second aromatherapy course, Foundations in Aromatherapy Course Level II, because you will be referring back to that section more than you can imagine.

So that’s all the news for now. Wish me luck as I try and make the deadline for November 1, 2008

All the best

Aromatherapy Course Level II in Progress: What Would You Like?

Posted on October 14th, 2008 by admin

As many of you know, I am presently working on the second level of the Aromatherapy Course so that many of you can become a Certified Aromatherapist.

While adding all of the necessary information I am wondering what YOU would like to learn that I may be able to add for you. So I am coming right out and asking you: What do you want in a Level II Aromatherapy Course?

There are so many questions that are being asked about Aromatherapy over the Internet especially places such as Yahoo Answers. Obviously everyone needs to know the basics such as How to use Essential Oils and how to use aromatherapy safely and effectively, but perhaps there is something that you have always wanted to know about aromatherapy that I could share with you in the Aromatherapy Course.

So, here is your chance. Please leave your comments because I am hoping to wind up the aromatherapy course very soon.

For those of you who know me well know that I am always trying to give my friends the best, so please use this opportunity to give some suggestions for the aromatherapy course and I will see what I can do.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Hello world!

Sharron Myers Certified Aromatherapist

First the obvious: I am a teacher and have written Foundations in Aromatherapy Level I ,an aromatherapy course which far exceeds the standards set up for a Level I Course, and I am presently working on the Level II  Aromatherapy Course. I have also written ebooks on Aromatherapy. Also published the Book “Ailments & Alternatives in Aromatherapy” a handy desk reference for aromatherapy. Some people spell this aroma-therapy.

Just a brief bio on who I am. My name is Sharron Myers and I am a Certified Aromatherapist. I am the owner of Serene Aromatherapy and also do consulting. I have studied Essential Oils and Aromatherapy since 1991, although I was always interested in Alternative Healing. I have my diploma in Floristry and Flower Arranging also, this is probably why I love flowers and their essences so much.

I was also published in the American Massage Therapist Association Magazine in their Winter 2000 Issue. I was asked by them to write an article especially for massage therapist so I wrote a large 2 page article entitled “Adding Power to Your Petrisage”.  This was a special edition about Tools of the Trade for massage therapists. I’ll get a scan of it and put it up on the net one of these days.

I love to sing and play music, piano, keyboard, organ and accordion. I was the worship leader at our local church for many years and also a guest soloist and speaker at many local venues here in Chateauguay, Quebec. We live on the South Shore of Montreal. So, that makes me Canadian eh?

So I suppose that is enough about me.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy this blog

Still Working on the Aromatherapy Course Level II For You

Posted on September 24th, 2008 by admin

Hi Everyone

Sorry I haven’t posted in a few days. I’ve been very busy working on the second part of the Aromatherapy Course for my students. Aromatherapy Courses can’t just be thrown together in a day or two.

It’s important that the teacher of the aromatherapy course is taking the time to do the proper research to be certain that her students have up to date information.

Hopefully I will find the time to write another blog post soon. In the meantime, if you have any questions feel free to get in touch with me.

Til Later

I would like to make my own skincare from proper aromatherapy recipe books and eventually sell them?

Posted on September 15th, 2008 by admin

Is this allowed or is it necessary to do a course. I don’t like the idea of having to do a 3 year course, If there are shorter courses in WA I would prefer?
I’m sure it’s allowed! If you make them properly and label them correctly — with the list of ingredients and a ‘warning’ that it’s homemade. People do it all the time on e-bay, and I think that’s a good place to sell them. Make sure you include (if you should sell on e-bay) information about the book you got the recipie from.

powered by Yahoo answers

Answer from Serene Aromatherapy:

You can always take an aromatherapy course via the Internet. What you read in books is not always reliable. As a certified aromatherapist I always suggest that people take an aromatherapy course so that they can learn to use Essential Oils safely and effectively. A good aromatherapy course will also teach you how to make your own blends for aromatherapy recipes so you can have truly original aromatherapy products to sell or use.
